I make no bones about it, my musical soul is dipped in Jazz. It always has been but I love all kinds of music and therefore sing many different kinds of songs. This also includes the ocassional classical piece. I have never liked to be put in any musical bag. A singer like any other creative artist should dive in all the colours of music.
I began my singing career at the tender age of fifteen. I have appeared on Radio,Television and made Records. My career has encompassed the musical spectrum, Folk, Rock, Jazz and Popular music..
In 1970 I was a member of the UK band THE GHOST . A Progressive Rock Band. With Ghost and as a solo artist, I appeared on the John Peel BBC programme SOUND OF THE SEVENTIES. You can find information about those sessions in the Ken Garner book IN SESSION TONIGHT . You can also find information about The Ghost and myself in the 2018 RECORD COLLECTOR Rare Record Price Guide. For a short while I reinvented myself as Virginia Tree and have a collectable album out there. Sadly I no longer hold rights on this master. Presently being bootlegged.
Jazz however pulled me back to solo work and through this time I would play second on the bill to Stephane Grappelli, Oscar Peterson, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Blossom Dearie, George Melley, Dakota Stanton, Roland Kirk, John Dankworth with Cleo Laine, Mark Murphy, Jon Hendricks, Doris Troy, Count Basie, Humphrey Littleton band, Buddy Rich Band, and too many more to list here.
